Sandy Skoglund

Sandy Skoglund's work is definitely very innovative and in my opinion, the real definition of art in the sense that it possesses both creativity, imagination and is also visually appealing.

I think, obviously, at first her work would've have inflicted shock, resentment and awe from the art community, but given a second glance her work is recognized as creative, elaborate and intriguing. Aside from both criticism and praise, Skoglund was born in 1946, grew up in California and was schooled in the Midwest. Some of the things that influenced her are American and European cinema. The end result of all of this is half a year work to produce one scene, which, in my opinion, is a brilliant outcome. Her work is absolutely genius.

I think what the writer meant in the last paragraph of the article was that her work relies heavily upon emotional response opposed to technicalities of a photograph, meaning the questioning of why it was taken, what makes it the way it is, etc. Her artwork has themes, stories, underlying stories and almost a feeling of tension that translates emotionally, similar to watching a film.

Quay Shoot #2

I have never been so frustrated with an image before!! Honestly, I couldn't find many pictures from the shoot that I thought were good enough to post; but I got lucky, because this image was a fixer-upper!
Again, wow, I chose something for lines, because all I really had other than this that was good, were images of flowers - they are SO overrated. I really had to edit this one. I changed the contrast, edited the grey scale and cloned something out. I feel that this image is somewhat strong and that is because I really like the lines in the wood and the texture of it. I really like that the angle of the lines in the picture and the way it was take isn't perfectly straight. I feel that the direction of the lines help the picture flow and doesn't trap the viewer's eye in a mess of shapes. I had to get down on the ground and really concentrate on trying to get a good shot, so both shooting and editing this image was frustrating, but I think the turn out was decent.

Quay Shoot #1

I chose this picture for a few reasons, one of them being I love, love, love the colors in this and the way the light sort of hits the bottom of the yellow rope. I was seeking out an image that used lines and saw this as a perfect opportunity for a decent shot. What especially caught my eye about this, was the texture - I loved it! The rope is obviously the focal point and to really accentuate that, I even edited it by blurring the background a bit more. I actually got lucky capturing this shot. The rope was running above me and so the picture really just presented itself.

Elements #1

So, yes, this is for a photography class and I chose this picture due to the color contrast between the beautiful pale pink and light brown. Unfortunately, the lighting didn't turn out quite as I would have liked, but still a decent turn out.
